On February 24-26, Canada’s leaders in foodservice and hospitality gathered at the Enercare Centre in Toronto to take part in the 2019 Restaurants Canada Trade Show. Every year the show picks a theme and focuses on relevant issues and trends within the foodservice industry.
This year’s theme was sustainability. The show did a great job at showcasing products that are innovative, enhance diner’s experience, and help restaurants improve their bottom line. Many booths educated diners and business owners on how to be environmentally friendly, sustainable, and energy efficient.
The Speaker Stage
The Speaker Stage hosted some of the industry’s top leaders to dive into hot topics facing the foodservice industry. RH’s own CEO, Tom Pitera, had the honour of speaking on Sunday about the evolution of foodservice delivery. This discussion touched on issues facing food distribution and how to navigate the supply chain system. Each one of the speakers shared their opinions and gave input on how to advance in this ever-changing industry, as well as where they saw the future of distribution going in the years to come.
Restaurant of the Future
RH had the privilege of attending and participating in the RC Show this year and even lent the organization an Urban Cultivator to showcase in their ‘Restaurant of the Future’ Pavillion. This pavilion was an interactive experience, where attendees could learn how to effectively design and build a business, as well as discover energy efficient practices. The pavilion also showcased the latest products in robotics, which gave people a glimpse of what the future has in store for the restaurant industry.
Autonetics Universe, a provider of robotic solutions who offer cutting-edge commercial and personal robots designed to modernize and revolutionize business, introduced the Waitress Robot. She can greet, serve and entertain guests, as well as carry loads of up to 33 lbs. Her anti-collision and auto re-charge technology allows her to work for up to 10 hours non-stop. With a body made of glass fibre, reinforced plastic, acrylic, rubber and steel, this hard-working “Robotress” stands at 5’5” and weighs 121 lbs.
The RC Show delivered on its ability to highlight cutting-edge products, and celebrate sustainable practices. It not only empowered people to reduce waste and conserve energy, but also provided attendees with the ability to measure business growth and achieve more in their day to day operations.
