Earlier this year we published a foodservice eco-guide that featured environmentally responsible equipment options, as well as energy-saving tips to reduce energy costs and promote a more sustainable workplace. One of the equipment categories we highlighted was ice machines, specifically the Hoshizaki brand of machines. Hoshizaki is a global leader in design, manufacturing, and marketing of equipment for the foodservice industry. The company has a successful portfolio of award-winning products that make them a top choice for high-quality, eco-friendly products.
Below we'll outline some of the key features of their brand, which of their ice machines are Energy Star® approved, and ways you can adopt sustainable practices into your restaurant.
Hoshizaki has been awarded the ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year for 7 years. They continually engage in the ENERGY STAR® specification revision process while redesigning product lines to ensure customers have highly efficient commercial refrigeration and ice machine equipment options.
For those unfamiliar with the ENERGY STAR® program or its revision process, it is a process that relies on rigorous market, engineering and pollution savings analysis, and involvement from a range of stakeholders (ie: manufacturers, utilities, the efficiency community, international governmental partners, and so on). This process ensures that the final consumer product reduces greenhouse gas emissions and saves the customer money without sacrificing performance.
Hoshizaki is continually adopting new technology in its commercial ice maker product lines, which results in increased ice production and reducing energy consumption by as much as 12 percent. The newly engineered Hoshizaki ice machines continue to feature a dual-sided stainless steel evaporator which freezes the cleanest water. The result is individual, crystal clear KMEdge cubes. Hoshizaki machines run cleaner and last longer. Upgrading to a new, ENERGY STAR® qualifying ice machine can have an impressive impact on energy usage. A new model can produce up to twice the ice capacity at half the cost per pound of ice.
Hoshizaki's new KM Edge Series Ice Makers increase efficiency and maximize the surface area for a faster harvest cycle and increased production speed. Hoshizaki's evaporator design freezes the cleanest water, rinsing out minerals and impurities, resulting in individual, crystal clear KMEdge cubes. The new models increase ice production by 7% while using 22% less energy.
The ENERGY STAR® KM-115BAJ produces up to 116 lbs of ice daily, a 1% increase (over former KM-101BAH) while using 11% less water. The KM-300BAJ model produces up to 265 lbs of ice daily, an 11% increase (over the former KM-260BWH) while using 11% less water.
The KM-300BAJ model produces up to 265 lbs of ice daily, an 11% increase (over the former KM-260BWH) while using 15% less electricity. The ENERGY STAR® KM-115BAJ produces up to 116 lbs of ice daily, a 1% increase (over former KM-101BAH) while using 15% less electricity.
Faster harvest for increased production. Increased efficiency with maximized surface area. Stronger, more durable ice structure.
